The (in)famous ferret-scene from GoF …

My very first attempt at drawing this scene was a funny-looking Malfoy, but suddenly this seemed so wrong …

Malfoy and Harry have an argument, Malfoy loses control of himself and attacks at exactly the moment Harry turns away. Moody calls this “attacking from behind” to taking out some aggressions on the son of a former “colleague”. He abuses Malfoy physically and emotionally. In short: We see a Death Eater at work – and we cry with laughter ..........
For a long time, I didn’t realize that Malfoy behaves quite dignified: Right after being transformed back into a boy, he gets to his feet, wincing, but by himself!

It’s interesting how accurate – and manipulating – Jo’s writing from Harry’s perspective is: At the Quidditch World Cup, the Death Eaters have a little fun with some Muggles, but I didn’t have to laugh … Then, something similar, but more brutal, happens to Harry’s nemesis – and suddenly it’s very funny!

All this inspired me to other attempts at the same scene: I tried to draw it from the perspective of a neutral observer, of someone, who happens to be there, but doesn’t know the involved persons. This was an interesting thing to do, because it somewhat switches “good” and “bad”: Crabbe, Goyle and Pansy become nice, because they care about their friend. Harry’s and Ron’s behaviour though, is displeasing.

If I were Astoria Malfoy, immediately after giving birth to Scorps, I would have swapped the real baby for a ferret when I handed it to Draco as a joke.
